Technology Transfer Areas

The group’s scientific know-how, capabilities and technological experience enable the transfer to companies of advanced computing technologies for the design, implementation and deployment of automatic optimisation and decision-support systems. The group has experience in several technology transfer projects already carried out.

Context
Constraint-based optimisation problems

Constraint-based optimisation problems arise in many industrial scenarios.

  • Planning and sequencing of activities and tasks
  • Scheduling of industrial processes
  • Transport (assignment of vehicles, drivers, timetables, routes)
  • Logistics, route planning, timetable generation
  • Resource / staff allocation
  • Decision-support systems in uncertain and constrained environments
  • Packing, cutting, configuration and design problems
  • Intelligent planning of processes/tasks
Requirements
Constraints + optimisation criteria

The solution must satisfy a set of constraints (hard, soft, fuzzy, prioritised, temporal, capacity, etc.) and optimise multiple criteria.

A feasible and optimised solution is required

for a problem with multiple and complex constraints.

Generic systems can be adapted, but the specificity and complexity of processes (data types, scenarios, constraints, criteria, etc.) often make them an incomplete alternative.

The ideal approach is the design of systems specifically oriented to the concrete application and its specific characteristics. This provides easier use, better applicability, improved solutions and appropriate computation times.
